If there’s one place where dance, music and fun are brought together on a single stage, it’s on America’s Best Dance Crew! Created by Randy Jackson, a popular judge on the ace reality show, American Idol; the show serves as a platform for amateur dancers as well as professional dance crews to showcase their dancing skills. They not only stand a chance of winning a whopping $100,000 prize money, but also world-wide fame and accolade.
The show premiered on February 7, 2008, and has completed a successful five-season run. The competition is carried out in a unique format, which poses different challenges to all the competing dance crews each week. This includes the setting up of a real-to-life setting, such as a school gym, in which the crew is required to effectively incorporate props and other dance equipment, and improvise a gripping plot amidst fluid dance moves. The bottom two crews are then put through a grueling elimination round, in which they are required to put up individual performances, on the basis of which one crew gets eliminated.
The show is hosted by Mario Lopez, who’s been associated with reality television for a long time now, having hosted two game shows, and holding the honor of being the runner-up on Dancing With The Stars. As for the judge’s panel, it consists of Lil Mama and JC Chasez, who’ve been associated with the world of dance for a long time. The show has also been judged by dance personalities like Shane Sparks and Omarion in the previous seasons.
The first season was won by JabbaWockeeZ, the second by Super Cr3w, the third by Quest Crew, the fourth by We Are Heroes and the fifth by Poreotix. Each of these crews has lived up to the show’s status of brilliance by emerging as successful dance troupes after winning the show. |
