The sci-fi series, Caprica, is an enthralling tale of how humans, residing in a group of fictional planets in an outer galaxy conceptualize their own Frankenstein. Being a prequel to another sci-fi series Battlestar Galactica, the plotline actually concentrates on the culmination of an apocalypse in the form of a man-made menace, Cylons.
The opening season of the sci-fi extravaganza takes into account the socio-political upheaval of the city of scientifically advanced Caprica. The story arc of season 1 brings drama, action, thrill and suspense involving the lives of the central characters Joseph Adama (Esai Morales) and Daniel Graystone (Eric Stoltz).
The two characters are brought together by an act of terrorism. While Graystone loses his daughter; Adama bears the brunt of losing both his wife and daughter. Scientist Graystone engages himself in scientific research, not knowing that one day his research would lead to a race that will rise against humanity, hell-bent on abolishing it completely.
The character of Joseph Adama plays an important role in the whole season, as most of the plotline of season 1 zeroes down on him. Joseph shares a strong connection with the mother series, Battlestar Galactica, and ultimately it would be his son William Adama, who rescues human race from the wrath of rebellious Cylons.
The series makes a point with its underlying theme that cautions against over-inclination on technology and the havoc that it can wreck.
The prequel to Battlestar Galactica has been created by Remi Aubuchon, Ronald D. Moore and David Eick. Unlike its mother series, Caprica deals with the incidents that happen within the city, rather than outer space. It is a seamless effort to interweave the elements of sci-fi with drama. The focus is more on the social and religious values, which clash with scientific thoughts and sets the tone for the happenings of the Battlestar Galactica.
