Joss Whedon’s enthralling TV series, Dollhouse brings a balanced amalgamation of suspense and drama. The plot focuses on central character named Echo, who is not a normal human being. Echo is one of the programmed individuals, who are re-created by a criminal organization, known as Dollhouse. These dolls a.k.a Actives are planned to perform different functions ranging from heinous crimes to satiating the personal desires of the owner. The sci-fi series ran for two seasons.
In season 1, the central character Echo is shown accomplishing various assignments of the clients of Dollhouse. In one of the episodes, Echo goes undercover as a blind lady when one of the clients, a senator by profession, approaches the organization to sort out a volatile religious matter at Arizona. Apart from Echo, who s one of the Actives in the show, the opening season also featured some other Actives of the underworld organization. By the end of that season, the main protagonist is shown to be rebellious towards her own organization.
Actives are actually human beings, who are programmed by the experts at Dollhouse by erasing their original memory. Echo’s programmed memory starts depleting by the closure of the season 1, which makes her conscious about the activities of evil Dollhouse. When season 2 kicks off, Echo becomes hell-bent on exposing the secret workings of the organization. Even though both the seasons are filled with eccentric action sequences, those of the second season have a subtle message of battle between good and evil.
The show went off air during the second season. The main credit for the show’s success goes to Joss Whedon, who tried to bring all the elements of a perfect thriller series through a sensuous female character. The role of Echo is played by Eliza Dushku, and it is because of her incredible performance that the character evolved as a super-woman.
