When concepts of comedy and cheerleading are weaved into one plot, they give birth to a masterpiece called Hellcats. The show is telecasted on The CW and brings to the light, thrill-packed lives of a group of enthusiastic cheerleaders. The main focus of the series is on a girl Marti, played by Alyson Michalka, who joins the group for the sole purpose of getting athletic scholarship.
The topsy-turvy lives of the girls, who form this cheerleading group, go through several twists and turns, as the story moves forward. Initially, the series was picked up for a thirteen-episode-long season, but after seeing the response of viewers, its creators considered it for a full season run.
The first season of the series premiered on September 8, 2010 and it managed to pull high viewers’ ratings. In fact, the response was so overwhelming, that it managed to equal the highest ratings that have been ever achieved since the channel was launched.
The first season of the comedy-packed show begins as Marti is forced to be a member of cheerleading squad, after considering it to be the only way out to regain her lost scholarship. There, she makes some new friends, who impart a different turn to her life. She is partnered with Lewis Flynn under the captainship of Savannah Monroe (Ashley Tisdale). The coach of the team, Vanessa Lodge, the character, which is well executed by Sharon Leal, has a tough task to complete, as she has to win the Nationals, in order to let the cheerleading program survive.
Thus, Marti and the girls have to be on their toes, literally, to keep the reputation of their group. As the episodes of first season roll on, Marti ends up befriending her captain Savannah. However, soon she develops some conflicts with Alice Verdura. Alice is the same cheerleader as a replacement of whom, Marti joined Hellcats. Marti has one more friend by her side, Lewis Flynn who’s serving as a base in the cheerleading group.
As coach prepares the team for the Nationals, Marti and Lewis come closer to each other and eventually, end up falling in love. Marti doesn’t disclose her relationship with Lewis to others, as she herself isn’t sure of her love for her cheerleading partner.
This is how the show Hellcats presents a wide array of emotions, as Marti deals with regular adolescent issues, and those related to her cheerleading team.
