Harriet Braun’s Lip Service has done what only few TV series had managed to do before – it broached the subject of lesbianism. The Glasgow lesbians portrayed in the series’ first season that spans six episodes, move in their life with a purpose.

The plot kick starts with Frankie (Ruta Gedmintas), who vows to look further and deeper into the letter her aunt left her. Her investigation reunites her with Cat (Laura Fraser), her ex-girlfriend, who still loves her but tries to show-off that she has moved on with her existing girlfriend Sam, a detective sergeant.

Cat lives with Tess (Fiona Button), her best friend, who almost always finds herself in relationships with the wrong sorts of women. She can be flaky at times for no reason, and become sober and vulnerable the next moment. Frankie, Cat and Tess are the three lead characters in the show, and most of the plot revolves around the three of them.

Frankie is a photographer, who does not keep herself for too long into a relationship. Although she is a lesbian, she indulges in physical intimacy with men and uses them for bailing herself out of her sardonic life. During the initial episodes, she meets trouble while working on her lead.

Most of the first season is covered in character development, which is traced by the 20 something girls’ love affairs and lives. The series follows what it is like to live a lesbian life in the contemporary Britain. Harriet Braun was inspired by something that happened to her and her friends.

Season one ends with Tess going for a tryout to her career around. In another other set of events, Sam and Frankie have a confrontation, resulting in the latter going to New York, with Cat attempting to stop her from doing so!
