Colin Morgan achieved much critical acclaim for his role of Merlin in the medieval fantasy show, Merlin. He serves the would-be king Arthur who, although much like his father King Uther, deep down is a passionate and good-hearted person. He knows that Camelot needs him and he needs Merlin.
Although Merlin is a servant to Arthur, he is the lead character in the show, after whom the show is named. He finds The Dragon, which King Uther had imprisoned. Merlin has been authorized with the task to protect Arthur, and see that he becomes a great king.
Much to our surprise, they don’t find each other’s company as amicable and friendly as we would like to believe. But it is only a matter of time before they become more than master-servant to each other, and take it on themselves to guard each other, just like a true friend. Season one of the series mostly develops their relationship, and brings forth some extraordinary scenes, depicting friendship and care.
Merlin is a magician and, although King Uther has barred everyone from using magic, Merlin secretly uses it to wade his way through. His partnership with Kilgharrah, the Dragon (voiced by John Hurt) has proved to be a real sensation. Their bond is prevaricated during season one but by the end of season two, Merlin comes out as a natural master to Kilgharrah.
Another main attraction of the show has been the character Morgana, played by Katie McGrath. She has prophetic powers, which she keeps secret, and fears an execution if it is ever revealed to the king. She finds it too hard to control her powers and believes in Merlin and Arthur, and deeply trusts Gwen, her maid servant.
Morgana is King Uther’s daughter, one who was born out of an illegitimate relationship between Uther and Morgana’s mother. Morgana, on being deprived of her rights, turns hostile and vows to kill Uther. She meets her half-sister, Morgause and during season three, it is revealed that she is the main villain of the series. It’s a truly engaging and magical tale, one that can sweep you completely.
