Modern Family, telecasted as a mockumentary, is a sitcom shaped by Christopher Lloyd and Steven Levitan. This TV series is about their personal experiences as the theme is churned out of their family members. It showcases three separate families, the patriarch of which is Jay Pritchett (Ed O’Neill). He divorced his wife to marry a much younger woman.
Gloria Pritchett is from Colombia and already had a son Manny Delgado (Rico Rodriguez) before she married Jay. With his first marriage, Jay had two children – a daughter Claire Dunphy, played by Julie Bowen and a son Mitchell Pritchett (Jesse Tyler Ferguson). Modern Family portrays their life through various incidents that are comedic and full of fun.
Claire is married to Phil Dunphy and has three kids – Haley, Alex and Luke. All three of them differ from each other and sort of appear as the perfect American kids. While Haley is a hackneyed teenager, Luke is an out of the ordinary boy. Alex strikes a perfect balance between the two by being a smart kid.
The third family is Jay’s son and his partner Cameron. Mitchell and Cameron have taken-up a Vietnamese child, Lily. Season one develops on the lives of the three families, by showing all the characters and comprised of twenty-four episodes. Small incidents keep happening that serve fun and comedy.
Jay and Gloria faced Jay’s wife’s insult at their wedding. Phil and Claire are always considering if Haley’s boyfriend is good for her or not. All the three kids form an important part of the series and make up for some amazing moments, with their fights and quarrels, at times.
Mitchell and Cameron have kept the identity of their adopted child a clandestine thing, and it’s only when Cameron invites Mitchell’s family to a party without his knowledge, that everybody comes to know about Lily, their adopted daughter.
In the second season, Phil’s old station wagon is finally put on sale, but only after the entire family reminisces in past memories associated to it. Mitchell wants to build an enormous castle for Lily, and asks Jay to aid him in the process. The show goes on unravel many secrets of the family, the least of which are the ones Cameron unearths, after deciding to write a book celebrating Lily’s adoption.
With so many revelations taking place each day, the show has managed to secure a place in the hearts of millions.
