Rake, the Australian TV series perfectly fits the genre of comedy drama. It debuted on ABC in 2010. It revolves around a barrister who is outstandingly intelligent and fabulous at his job, but also has some self-destructive tendencies.
Each episode of the show brings up a new case for the barrister who usually fights for the guilty and comes out with a win. The role of this barrister is donned by Richard Roxburgh and has been given the screen name Cleaver Greene.
Another main character of this show is Matt Day who plays David Potter. He is a tax lawyer, striving to gain an entry into politics. Matt sued Cleaver and is helped by Joe Sandilands in his endeavor to make it big in the world of politics.
The other cast members include Melissa ‘Missy’ Partridge (Adrienne Pickering), Barney Meagher (Russell Dykstra), Scarlet Meagher (Danielle Cormack), Finnegan "Fuzz" Greene (Keegan Joyce) and NSW Attorney General, Wendy Greene (Caroline Brazier). Wendy plays the role of Cleaver's ex-wife.
The opening season of the show had a total of 8 episodes, and in each and every one of these episodes, Cleaver was shown defending the case of a guilty person. He makes up for an unusual central character as he defends people who deserve to be punished. Thus, he sides up with criminals.
He portrays exemplary brilliance as he takes up unorthodox cases and eventually saves the guilty. In the very first episode, Cleaver is shown as defending Professor Murray, charged with a murder and also apprehended as a cannibal.
Such engrossing and unusual cases impart an interesting edge to the show. These cases act as a sub plot to the main story that transcends the life of Cleaver and those associated with him. The producers of Rake are planning to come up with a new season, soon.
