The reality show Teen Mom records the lives of girls, who become mothers at an early stage. It shows how these mothers raise their children against all odds. The first season of the show records the lives of four teenagers, Maci Bookout, Farrah Abraham, Amber Portwood and Catelynn Lowell.

The resident of Chattanooga, Tennessee, Maci Bookout is a mother of one child, and she has been described as one of the liveliest teen mothers of the show. After completing high school, she aspires to enroll herself to college. But her troubled relation with boyfriend Ryan, as well as her concern of raising Bentley Cadence Edwards, her child, comes as a major hurdle. The opening season records all the predicaments of her life.

Another teen mother Farrah Abraham, also takes to several hardships in raising her only child named Sophia Laurent Abraham. Farrah’s case is quite different as her husband gets killed in an accident. The first season of the show features how she takes all the pains for her child. In addition to taking care of her child, Farrah had to sort out differences with her family as well.

Single mother Amber Portwood also goes through some rough patches while raising her child Leah Leann Shirley, as well as maintaining a live-in relationship with her fiancé Gary. Similarly, Catelynn Lowell’s life as a confused teen mother, also gets featured in the show.

While season 1, brings the initial year of all four young mothers, the next season takes a leap forward in documenting the lives of the people around them. This show has received critical acclaim for featuring the true stories of the girls, who fall prey to early pregnancy. It has created and conceptualized by Lauren Dolgen.  It is a spin-off of MTV’s popular reality show, 16 and Pregnant.
