In the beginning of the show, we saw that a comet like object released approximately 4400 people on the Highland Beach, near Mount Rainier, Washington. All these people had been disappearing since 1946 from different places and at different times. Nobody of them showed any signs of aging and they had no memory of their time away from Earth. The series went on as these 4400 people tried to find out where they had been since the day of their disappearance and dealt with their special physical and psychic powers.
