Created by Tom Wheeler, The Cape, is a superhero drama that centers around the oft- repeated theme of the battle between the good and the evil. The novelty arises from the treatment of the characters and the situations that lead to unprecedented levels of thrills and excitement.
Set in the fictional Palm City, the series focuses on the life of an upright cop Vince Faraday (David Lyons), who is mistakenly considered to be the murderer of Police Chief by the denizens of the city. The plot takes a new turn when Vince is perceived to be killed in an explosion. However, Vince survives and joins an underground group of circus performers and emerges as The Cape, a superhero straight out of his son’s comic books.
But, where there is a superhero, there must be a super villain. Peter Fleming (James Frain), also known as Chess, is the personification of evil in this series. He is the head of a large organization, which is threatening to take over city’s security system. And, the only person standing between Chess and his dreams is the, The Cape.
But, he is not alone in his task! Assisting The Cape in his efforts is a mysterious girl who calls herself Orwell (Summer Glau), a secretive blogger. She collaborates with Vince and wages a battle against the corruption that is swarming within the walls of the city. Orwell helps him in his battle against the evil forces and also acts as a link between him and his family.
The storyline also has a magician in the form of Max Malini (Keith David), who trains the budding superhero in the subtle mechanics of cape manipulation. After much practice and hard work, emerges The Cape, ready to take on villainy.
The cape is a fast paced and highly enjoyable family entertainer that remains true to the genre. Comprising of ten episodes, the series is a must watch for those who love their superhero dramas, the conventional way!
