The Vampire Diaries is a teen supernatural drama which premiered in 2009. The show is based in Mystic Falls, Virginia, a small town with a mysterious existence of supernatural beings. We are introduced to Elena Gilbert, the female protagonist, who falls in love with two vampire brothers, Stefan and Damon, and finds herself lost between them. The series takes an interesting twist with the introduction of an evil lookalike of Elena from a century ago. In the beginning of the show, Elena is just a regular teenager who works as a waitress. Her life takes an about turn when she meets Stefan, a 162-year old vampire, whom she instantly falls in love with. Things get even more complicated with the entry of Stefan’s older brother, Damon, who is vengeful towards Stefan. Damon also develops an attraction towards Elena, due to her stark resemblance to his lover from the yesteryears, Katherine. When Katherine returns from the past to get back at the Salvatore brothers for the pain they caused her more than a century ago, Elena’s life gets into jeopardy, and Stefan and Damon must pair up to save her. Nina Dobrev stars in the role of Elena, while Paul Wesley and Ian Somerhalder star as Stefan and Damon respectively.
