Undercovers is a detective series that first aired on NBC on September 22, 2010, and culminated on December 29, 2010, with an undecided fate. The first season consisted of 13 episodes, of which 11 were telecasted. The series is the brainchild of J.J. Abrams and Josh Reims, and focuses on the Blooms - a married couple that’s mysteriously re-recruited into the CIA by Carlton Shaw, played by Gerald McRaney, after they quit their jobs with a catering company.
The lead roles of Steven and Samantha Bloom are played by Boris Kodjoe and Gugu Mbatha-Raw, respectively. After the sudden resurrection of their careers, the Blooms are faced with the taxing scenario of juggling their on-the-rocks marriage with the pressure of their demanding career. To ease the stress, they vow never to question each other about their pasts, since probing into the past would make things between them go from bad to worse.
But as it turns out, that isn’t even half as easy as they had hoped it would be, since there are other people who step in, with a deep knowledge of their wild pasts. The first of these is Leo Nash, played by Carter MacIntyre, and the second is Bill Hoyt, portrayed by Ben Schwartz. While Leo Nash is Samantha’s ex-boyfriend, and a top CIA agent, Bill is a pro at computers, with an obsession of two things - computers and Steven!
The show brings together all these characters, resulting in a milieu of diverse personalities that makes for a high dose of drama. The episodes of the first season shed light on the attempts made by the Blooms to solve some intriguing mysteries, one of the cases involving the disappearance of their friend. Along with this, it also focused on the speculation that surrounded the underlying intention behind their reactivation by Carlton Shaw.
